Mather/Hawthorn Road Flats

Sykes Specialist Contracting Ltd have recently supplied and installed the Alumasc MRS 7 Render System to four blocks of medium to high rise apartments located in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne as part of an external refurbishment to upgrade the flats.
Initially the contract was for window replacement, patch render repairs and a re-paint, however due to the number of windows in each block it was found that a patch repair after window replacement would be unsightly and even with a paint finish the undulations in the existing render would still create shadow marks in the finish. It was therefore decided to re render all the blocks with a lightweight render supplied by Alumasc Exterior Building Products Ltd. The system selected included for a base coat of adhesive in which glassfibre reinforcing mesh was bedded. The base coat was then pinned back to the existing structure using mechanical fixings. Finally the MRS 7 finish was applied together with an aggregate dash to match the original building.
Sykes Specialist Contracting Ltd secured the work to supply and install the system and the contract was complete on time and to the agreed cost.
